strong allele; pleiotropic effects on leaf and flower morphology and on flowering time; short and early flowering plants (effect more severe under short days than under long days); blade of leaves narrow and curled upwards along the longitudinal axis of the leaf; sepals fail to enclose the floral buds; petals are often smaller and narrower than in wt; homeotic transformations of sepals to carpels and petals to stamens; it encodes a protein with homology to Drosophila Polycomb-group gene Enhancer of zeste.
